Peer-Reviews in STEM: Broadening Our Perspective of Collaboration

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
Peer-reviews have long been used in English courses to provide students feedback on their work, multiple perspectives on the arguments they construct, and to help the reviewers themselves see how other students approach assignments and how they might better meet standards outlined in course rubrics. However, it is uncommon to see this practice applied in STEM fields such as mathematics even though the Utah Core Standards expect students to “Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others” (SI.MP.3). In this session we will first discuss how to frame mathematical learning goals and create tasks that lend themselves to peer review. We will then discuss principles of the peer review process and how to use Canvas tools to facilitate the process in your class.
